SPD MARKETS
About This Spot
Stepping into SPD Markets in the heart of Nevada City feels like pausing to breathe in a small-town rhythm where daily needs meet thoughtful touches. There’s a distinctly welcoming energy here—unhurried, familiar, and genuine—like a corner market that’s quietly woven into the fabric of the community for years.
The atmosphere strikes a balance between bustle and calm. Shoppers move with purpose but seem to enjoy moments of friendly exchange, whether at the deli counter or among racks of local books and curious finds. It’s the kind of place where the clink of a jar being shelved merges with the soft hum of conversation, inviting you to linger as long as you like.
Food here is more than just sustenance; it’s an experience shaped by local pride and care. The market’s selection, from vibrant organic produce to thoughtfully sourced meats, speaks to a dedication that honors the seasons and local growers. Nearby, the deli hums with quiet excitement—handcrafted sandwiches and homemade bagels rise beyond routines into something personal, tailored by staff eager to share the craft behind each bite.
SPD Markets feels rooted in its surroundings in subtle ways, from supporting local authors to carrying essentials that stretch beyond groceries, including hardware and fishing supplies. This thoughtful curation turns errands into discovery, where regular customers and visitors alike find not only what they came for but also little surprises—an exotic fruit here, a specialty mustard there—that spark connection to place.
In every corner, there’s a sense of care: the patient guidance through deli options, the fresh produce arranged just so, the well-stocked shelves that balance everyday basics with community character. It’s this quietly confident blend of warmth and functionality that makes SPD Markets feel like much more than a grocery store—it’s a kind of local gathering spot where the everyday unfolds with a little extra comfort and a genuine smile.

Best small town grocer. Meat is locally sourced and the Sugar Shack Cafe attached in the back has the best homemade bagels. Local Authors have their own section of the store and the deli is always poppin'.

This is a locally owned market. They have top quality fresh meat, fish, and seafood markets and the produce is the best you can find anywhere, including an organic section. You will also find occasional exotic fruits & vegetables, not typically found anywhere else locally. The deli is superb as well. And the Customer service is awesome. The checkers even unload the groceries out of your cart as there is no belt on which to place them.

This place takes their sandwiches seriously. They have different levels of sandwiches, with store-made meats in their deluxe sandwiches. They have a wide range of mustards and toppings. The woman who served me took the time to explain all the options. I ended up with a beautiful sandwich that exceeded my expectations.

A good pit stop for some hot or cold food from the deli, snacks, and beverages for the river. They also have a public restroom too which was nice.

Family owned and operated. Best produce and meat department in town. They carry many basic hardware supplies and an abundance of fishing tackle and supplies.

My favorite supermarket in Nevada City! Every time I visit the city, I make sure to stop by and pick up my favorite sweet treat. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the variety of products makes the experience even more special.

Supporting Independent Local businesses. Local meat raised free range and local, local produce and the fish and seafood is also very fresh and clean. They are local and conscious about their fresh foods. The other items, like canned items tend to run high in price. I get better deals for those items elsewhere, but the FRESH FOOD IS EXCELLENT. Also, no worries about bird flu on eggs.
